Well hello there, November! Where did you come from? If you’re planning to have a handmade holiday this year, now is the time to get started.
We spend around $750 apiece on holiday gifts each year here in the U.S. That adds up to more than $586 billion total! For corporations, holidays are about making money, but for people, it’s supposed to be about sharing what’s in our hearts with our friends and families, isn’t it? That’s where a handmade holiday comes in!
Whether you opt to make gifts this holiday season (check out some of our ideas below!) or buy handmade gifts, your handmade holiday means that you’re opting out of the corporate vision of this season. Instead of giving your money to the big box store, you’re pouring your love into gifts you make or using those holiday dollars to support handmade artisans, and isn’t that way more in the holiday spirit than swiping that credit card at a big box store?
Buy Handmade
This year, I’m planning to do a mix of purchased handmade gifts and gifts that I make for friends and family. Here in Atlanta, we’re lucky enough to have some amazing holiday craft markets, like the Indie Craft Experience and the ICE Pop Up Shop. I bet that a lot of other towns have great holiday markets, too, where you can find handmade gifts, and I’d love to hear about them! Feel free to drop a comment with any deets about handmade holiday markets in your area!
If you don’t know where to find handmade goodies in town, don’t fret! You can get shopping on Etsy and Artfire to find handmade goodies for your whole Christmas list. Sometimes it takes a bit longer for handmade wares to ship, especially around the holidays, so pay attention to store policies! The sooner you get your orders in the better.
