I talked on Wednesday about more of the trouble with conventional cotton, but don’t fret, my fellow seamsters! There are plenty of organic cotton resources out there to help you sew cute without any green guilt.
There are all kinds of companies – big and small – that are printing gorgeous designs on organic cotton and hemp/organic cotton blends. There are not only a range of company sizes here but prices as well. In general, smaller companies that can’t afford to buy in volume do have to charge more to make ends meet, and I think that’s OK! When you support the little guy, you’re helping these indie designers make a living from their creativity.

Did I miss your favorite organic cotton resource? Let me know in the comments!
Such a great list! One of my favorite online resources is NearSea Naturals.
Ooh good one! Love them for notions like batting and stuffing!
I totally vote for near sea too! What about envirotextiles? They have some cool colorgrown organic cottons from Mexico and great hemp silk combos. Thank you for an interesting resource list!
Good one, Pam! Dropping a link for them, in case folks would like to check out their site: http://www.envirotextile.com/
I’ve opened a new shop recently featuring organic and Fairtrade fabric and sewing supplies, primarily for quilters. I plan to expand to sustainable textiles for the home and body soon. http://www.honeybegood.com. I hope you come visit!
Hi!
I am looking for organic cotton sources so that I can sew and dye my own t shirts. Can anyone recommend where you can find yards of organic jersey cotton, cotton slub or organic pima cotton? Thanks so much!
Jane
Do you know where I can find just plain white organic pima cotton?
