Christmas Craft-a-long Week One: Make Something for Your House

Christmas stockings made from felted wool sweaters1. Christmas stockings are some of the easiest sewing projects out there, especially these simple front-and-back felted wool sweater stockings. With a craft this easy, you can make handmade stockings for your whole family, including the cats, and a few extras just to hang sweetly on the mantle all month.

2. If you’re in the mood for nature crafts, especially ones that you can make with children, then you’ve got to check out The Magic Onions. This beautiful cranberry wreath looks so neat and festive, and is a suitable decoration for the entire winter season, not just Christmas. Or, if cranberries aren’t your thing, then check out this similarly-constructed acorn wreath over at Made.

3. This is technically a project for outside your house, not inside it, but when you have months upon months of freezing weather, what could be warmer or more cheerful than these ice lanterns from Ordinary Life Magic? It really is a way to make magic from the ordinary winter stuff around your yard.

4. Your everyday tablecloth doesn’t have to be switched out just for Christmas dinner if you simply add a festive handmade tablerunner on top of it, like this one from Betz White ,writing for Craft.

As for me, however, I am going to spend my week making a forest of stacked felted wool Christmas trees, tutorial courtesy of The Long Thread. They look so fluffy and warm sitting on a cabinet or table, and they’re another project that can live on display all winter before being snugged away until it’s cold again.

So all this week, craft away like the busy little Christmas elves that you are. Add your project ideas and links to the Comments section below, and don’t forget to take lots of pictures and add them the Crafting a Green World Christmas Craft-a-long pool, so that you can be published in next week’s Christmas Craft-along Week One wrap-up!
