Between gifts and a night out on the town, Valentine’s day can get pretty pricey, but it doesn’t have to be! Instead of heading out to dinner this year, why not whip up a romantic meal for two and transform your living- or dining-room into a perfect Valentine’s day date spot?

Of course, romance is all about ambiance, so here are a few tips to up the lovey-dovey factor:

  • Low lighting is sexy. Turn off the overheads and go for a combination of lamp and candle-light instead.
  • Music sets the scene. Some quiet music can really give your Valentine’s day date some ambiance. It doesn’t have to be Barry White. Choose whatever tunes do it for you!
  • Plan your menu. Just because you don’t eat out doesn’t mean you can’t have a nice meal. Our sister site Eat Drink Better shared a tasty-looking vegetarian Valentine’s day menu, if you need some ideas!

Right! So the lights are low, the music is on, and you’ve got that menu planned. All you need now are a few finishing touches! Here are 4 DIY Valentine’s day decorations for your mini soiree!
