Re-Construct: Eco-Friendly Crafts Made Easy

On Friday night, I hit up the Young Blood Gallery here in Atlanta to check out the Re-Construct DVD release party! We munched on snacks served on compostable dishware and watched the trailer for Garth Johnson’s and Jeanée Ledoux’s new film about eco-friendly crafting! Garth is the man behind Extreme Craft and the upcoming book 1000 Ideas for Creative Reuse. Jeanée is a maker and writer of Abode à la Mode: 44 Projects for Hip Home Decor.

Re-Construct looks fantastic! It features “11 projects friendly to the Earth and to your budget.” You can check out the trailer we watched on the Re-Construct website. Keep an eye out for Angela Nichols from Gub, one of my favorite local crafters!

I just love what Jeanée has to say about the DVD:

It’s cool if people want to take a project and reproduce it exactly, but a neat thing about this DVD, because it’s recycled materials, you may not be able to. . . . That’s just the nature of salvage. You won’t be able to help making something unique.

That’s exactly how I feel about working with salvaged materials. So much of the process is driven by what you can find and what those materials want to be. Every piece turns out totally unique and full of personality!
