How-to: Fancy Up a Necktie with Applique

1. Planning your design

You can create any design you want for your tie, as long as it fits in the space available. To create my bird pattern, I traced the area I wanted to cover onto a piece of junk mail and drew my little bird and heart within that space. Cut your paper design out, and voila! Instant pattern!

Next, trace your design onto your felt (pinning it, like in the photo above, makes the tracing much easier), cut it out, and you’re ready to pin and sew!
