DIY Upcycled Clothing for SUMMER!

Men’s Button Down Shirt into Summer Dress

I love the bright plaid top she chose to make this super adorable summer dress! If you can’t find a top in bright colors, you can always add more embellishments, like a pretty revers applique, to add a bit of interest.

The other cool thing about this tute is that it uses almost the entire top to make the dress. Not quite zero waste sewing, but it gets closer than some other clothing reconstruction projects I’ve seen. It looks like she used some of her leftover scraps to make a pretty fabric flower embellishment for her dress. You could do something similar to reduce the waste even more!

  1. Your video is so well done!  Thanks for uploading this easy DIY top.  I wear white clothes, it’s hot in Miami, I have a sewing machine, why not!!

On the shirring do you use regular thread on the top and the elastic thread on the bobbin?
