My 15+ Favorite Halloween Cross Stitch Patterns

Halloween cross stitch

Spoiler alert: many of these Halloween cross stitch patterns aren’t actually intended for cross stitch!

It blew my mind when I figured out that I could use any pixel pattern, such as a Perler bead, weaving, bracelet beading, or filet crochet pattern, as a cross stitch pattern.

Of course, there are SO many proper Halloween cross stitch patterns out there in the world, too, and those are especially nice if you’d like to have specific embroidery floss colors that you can match.

But if it turns out that you want to do Perler beads, mosaic art, or fillet crochet with those cross stitch patterns instead–well, I won’t tell on you!

Halloween Cross Stitch Alphabets

No matter what other cross stitch patterns you choose, there’s always a way to add a spooky alphabet! This lowercase Gothic alphabet is a classic, and I think it would incorporate well with most of the other patterns I’ve got here.

For a completely different Halloween vibe, I love this Happy Halloween alphabet from Better Cross Stitch Patterns. I love the combination of sprites with uppercase letters, including my favorite: CATS! I also love that with the “P,” you get to choose between a sad Jack-o-lanter and a happy Jack-o-lantern, lol.

Halloween Cross Stitch Cats

Speaking of cats, have I mentioned once or twice (or a thousand times) that they’re my favorite Halloween mascot? Because they are, ahem!

The aida color really emphasizes the spook factor in this cat with ghosts cross stitch from Stitch Crypt. I love how the cat itself is a major part of the creepiness–its eyes are so scary!

If you don’t want to devote the time to such a detailed pattern, this cat gives off just as many Halloween vibes but is a lot simpler.

Goth Patterns

AnimePunk91 has several good pixel patterns for making complementary cross stitch pieces, including a second style of coffin, a gravestone, and several different skulls, which is perfect for giving that super fun “death and dying” vibe to Halloween.

This free cross stitch pattern from Stitch Crypt is also super goth, with a bat, graveyard, AND spooky old trees!

Ghosts

I LOVE a good ghost pattern! This set of ghosts from Karen’s Perler is made for Perler beads, but it’s easy to see how well each pattern would also work with cross stitch. The sizing is perfect for stitching with yarn onto plastic canvas (less eco-friendly) or laser-cut wood (more eco-friendly) to make coasters.

For more large-scale and/or sophisticated ghosties, I highly recommend the book Creepy Cross-Stitch. If you live near me, though, you’ll have to wait your turn to check it out from the library–I have it checked out almost constantly!

Jack-o-Lanterns

This particular pattern is actually a woven bracelet pattern, but as a cross stitch pattern it’s perfectly sized to make a bookmark.

These Jack-o-lanterns would make a chunkier bookmark, but they’re much spookier!

If you’d like a traditional cross stitch pattern complete with specific floss colors, I love this classic Jack-o-lantern from Yarnspirations. He’s so cheerful!

Spoopy Patterns

I love a spoopy decoration for its ability to give Halloween energy without the murder vibes. This free Halloween garden cross stitch pattern helpfully gives specific floss numbers, which is super useful for a multi-colored pattern like this one.

This free pumpkin patch cross stitch pattern, also from Una Buena Pieza, is another classically spoopy pattern, especially if you choose a khaki, tan, or other off-white aida rather than black.

For some spoopy but simple patterns, check out these Halloween patterns created for Perler beads.

I love starting my Halloween vibes as early as possible, and this StayPlatinum popsicle pattern let me have a proper Summerween! This etsy shop has a ton of Summerween treat patterns so you can build a whole themed collection, and although they aren’t free, after my first purchase I did receive a coupon code for my next purchase.

Witches
