Five Eco-Friendly Treat Packaging Projects

Cookies and treats are some of the best gifts to give, and get, during the holiday season. If you’re going to be baking up a storm this year, think about how you are going to package all of these lovely treats. Instead of going out and buying containers or boxes, try whipping up some from materials you already have around the house. Each container will be unique and give an extra special touch to an already special gift. Here are five projects and ideas for creating some eco-friendly treat packages.

This video on Instructables shows us how to make a simple box from one sheet of paper. There is also this video on Video Jug that gives us a thorough step-by-step in creating a folded box with a lid.

3. Sewn Snack Bag

These bags are great for lunches and snacks, but why not give food gifts in them too? Once the treats are gone, your recipient will have something to keep. This tutorial on We Wilsons utilizes velcro to keep the treats nice and secure. Angry Chicken gives us an even simpler tutorial that doesn’t require any closures. Just a few strategic folds, and your bag is ready to fill.

4. Coffee Can Package

If you have any coffee cans left after making some of these projects, decorate some more to use as treat tins. Family Corner gives us the basics in preparing and decorating your coffee can. Decorate each one differently to suit your recipient’s taste.

5. Recycled Paper Bag

This ingenious tutorial from mairuru shows us how to take magazine pages and glue and fold them into a paper bag. These are so easy to make and your friends and family will love them.

What are some of the ways that you’re going to package your treats this year? What other eco-friendly gift wrap ideas do you have? I would love to hear your ideas and see some projects, feel free to leave some comments and links.

  1. Oh this is perfect! That is exactly what I’m doing, baking my gifts! I was starting to think about the best way to package them up since I’ll be mailing out some of them. Thanks for the encouragement to look for a “greener” way 🙂

  2. Very
first, I’d prefer to give thanks to you for this enlightening post. Secondly,
I’d prefer to question wherever I can discover a lot more info concerning your

websites on this subject. How do I subscribe for your web log? I’d prefer to
adhere to your updates as they arrive along! I had a query to question but I
forgot what it absolutely was… anyways, I give my thanks to you!
