Bath Salts Recipe
To make your bath salts, just combine:
- 1 cup epsom salts
- 5-10 drops of essential oil
Mix your ingredients up in a large bowl, stirring to combine them really well. When you’re ready for your bath, just pour the salts in while the tub is filling. You want to give the salts time to dissolve, because it’s not pleasant to climb into a steamy tub that’s gritty on the bottom from all of that coarse-grained salt.
Choosing Your Essential Oils
Different essential oils have different properties. Some can help you relax, some give you a little more pep. Here are some common essential oils broken out by use.
Calming
- bergamot oil
- lavender
- rosemary – this has a very strong scent, so use sparingly!
- sandalwood
- texas cedarwood
Mood-Boosting
- clary sage
- chamomile
- tea tree
Energizing
- grapefruit
- peppermint
- lemongrass
You can choose one oil for your bath salts or mix things up to create your own custom oil blends! Tea tree and lavender are a great mix, for example. I also like rosemary, sandalwood, and lemongrass together. Once you get a feel for how the different oils smell, you can have a lot of fun mixing up your own custom scent combinations!
I’d love to hear from the bath and body crafters out there! Do you have a favorite essential oil blend? Let’s share tips in the comments!
