Amp up candle season with DIY candle holders to show off your most special candles!
Autumn is my favorite season for many reasons, not the least of which is how much I enjoy long, cozy evenings reading, watching movies, and hanging out with my family while the Jack-o-lanterns glow outside and a few too many beeswax candles shine inside. The start of chilly weather is a great time to start burning a candle or two, because beeswax candles can improve indoor air quality!
It would probably also be too easy to indulge in a few too many store-bought, mass-produced, fast-fashion candle holders, too, but fortunately I like DIY candle holders SO much better, and I think you will, too!

Crystal Head Vodka Sugar Skull Candle Holder
This is a SUPER easy and kid-friendly project that’s suitable for Halloween… or all year, because you know I’ve got these sugar skull candle holders out all year long! The secret ingredient to decorating them to look just like sugar skulls is a set of paint pens. If you’ve got a steady hand and want them to look even more realistic, spring for some dimensional fabric paint, as well–it works on more than just fabric!
Copper Hardware Candle Holder
Although you can make the base any style or color you want, the true star of this candle holder is the copper tube cap, found in hardware stores or your local Restore.
Easy Molded Candle Holder
If you need a LOT of identical candle holders, or you’re a beginning crafter, these DIY molded candle holders are an easy win. The secret ingredient is a store-bought candle holder mold that makes DIYing multiples as easy as mixing and pouring!

Building Block Candle Holders
You sometimes have to have some major thrifting luck to score all the right letter blocks, but if you can, then these simple candle holders make the CUTEST holiday decorations! Finding duplicate blocks to make double letters is the hardest, so I suggest spelling out “JOY” instead of “MERRY” and “YIKES” instead of “BOO,” etc.
Scrap Wood Candle Holder
This candle holder is only slightly more challenging than the wood block candle holder, above (hint: it even uses the same drill bit!), but it allows for much more scope for the imagination. If you’ve got a jigsaw, you can get even more creative with wood shapes!
Mason Jar Mummy Candles
This is a great Halloween kid craft–and if you’re a Girl Scout troop leaders, it’s also a great way to introduce gauze wrapping to Brownies and Juniors, because those First Aid badges aren’t going to earn themselves! Kids who are too young to do the wrapping will enjoy using black paint to make the mummy faces.
Salt Dough Candle Holder
Salt dough is a very kid-friendly material, but it sculpts so nicely that advanced crafters might be surprised at the sophisticated shapes they can create! Its dyeable and paintable, although don’t forget to make sure that painted parts stay away from the candle.
Toy Animal Birthday Candle Holders
This is the cutest candle holder for birthday candles! The birthday candle inserts can be tricky to source, though, so definitely score those before you start the rest of your project.
Easy Easter Egg Candle Holder
These simple egg candles are the easiest ever Easter decoration, but I’ve also used them for camping, since they take seconds to create and eggshells aren’t flammable. I think they’d look especially decorative combined with some poured eggshell candles.
