Best of Crafting Green: Our Top Ten Posts from 2014

Here at Crafting a Green World, we tend to think that every single post that we write is our Best. Post. EVER!

We’re enthusiastic like that.

However, we’re also interested in what YOU like to read, and that’s why it was so fun to compile this Best of 2014 List. The criteria for inclusion on this list is solely what you, the readers, read the most. Do you like it when I let my kids make weapons? When Scott creates something new out of toilet paper tubes? When Becky finds the latest, greatest, greenest recipe?

Let’s see!

Best of Crafting Green

Okay, it sounds weird, but it’s actually a really great, totally natural way to preserve paper. Cover a newspaper clipping, say, in a light coat of beeswax, and it’ll stay as fresh as if you’d laminated it.

Best of Crafting Green

Although you do have to use chemical dye for this, it’s THE way to make your beloved black clothes black again so that you’ll, you know, keep wearing them and not have to toss them in a landfill.

I have to say that this is one of my favorites, too! I love making custom scents for my car, and they’re healthy scents, you know? No fake-y “pine” for me! I’ll take REAL pine, thank you very much!

4. 10 Awesome Craft Ideas for Old Sweaters

Best of Crafting Green

Felted wool is one of my favorite craft supplies, but it can be tricky to work with. Here are ten never-fail projects that won’t disappoint.

3. 3 Natural Fabric Stiffeners to Make at Home

Best of Crafting Green

I used probably a half-gallon of fabric stiffener on that T-shirt quilt that I made my cousin for Christmas, so believe me–I KNOW why it’s good to make your own at home!

1. Beach Craft: Make a Sandy Handprint Keepsake

Best of Crafting Green

This was your favorite post of 2014! Next time you’re at the beach, make your own keepsake from natural materials, and years later, you can look back at it and ask yourself the same question that I am asking myself right this second: “How was my daughter’s hand ever that SMALL?!?”

About the Author

I'm a writer, crafter, Zombie Preparedness Planner, and homeschooling momma of two kids who will hopefully someday transition into using their genius for good, not the evil machinations and mess-making in which they currently indulge. I'm interested in recycling and nature crafts, food security, STEM education, and the DIY lifestyle, however it's manifested--making myself some underwear out of T-shirts? Done it. Teaching myself guitar? Doing it right now. Visit my blog Craft Knife for a peek at our very weird handmade homeschool life; my etsy shop Pumpkin+Bear for a truly odd number of rainbow-themed beeswax pretties; and my for links to articles about poverty, educational politics, and this famous cat who lives in my neighborhood.
