Just in for spring Cicada Studio has added a new linen swatch to the shop. The cheerful Forsythia swatch is printed on a generous 13 x 17 inch swatch of 100% Belgium Linen. I first featured designer Michelle Engel Bencsko in the Top 10 Modern, Eco-freindly, Printed Fabrics on Etsy. One thing I love about indie fabric designers is there ability to come out with new patterns more frequently and Michelle never disappoints.
Her fabulous linen swatches are the perfect size for a multitude of craft projects. Read on for some great ideas.Michelle has a few tutorials on her blog including this great one to make a fabric lamp shade for an inexpensive Ikea lamp. I happen to have 2 of these lamps collecting dust in my garage because I thought they were too bright. Well, I just ordered my Forsythia swatch and plan to recover one of the lamps for my newly redesigned living room. There are so many other great uses for Cicada Studio linen swatches. Make one of these really cool wrist cuffs. Use smaller pieces of the swatch to makeover ugly notecards.
The future will hold even more great things from Michelle. She has started another business called Cloud 9 Fabrics.
Cloud9’s immediate goals are to use only 100% certified organic cotton in the manufacturing of our base cloths and only eco-responsible water-based inks and dyes for printing. Michelle’s retro-inspired color palette and whimsical designs play up the Nature theme that emphasize the promise for a happy, healthy Earth
The Cloud 9 Collection is expected to debut this fall and I can’t wait. There is definitely room for some new designs in the organic cotton market.

Where and how was the forsythia swatch printed? What makes it eco-friendly?
Selma,
Linen fabric is made from flax fiber which is naturally grown without the use of harmful pesticides. It is more eco-friendly then conventional cotton.
Thanks,
Jackie
