How-to: Upcycled Cork Pirate Ships

Cork Pirate Ships

Some friends and I are doing this pop up dinner thing, where tons of folks are descending on a local park and setting up a huge, fancy dinner party! We’re doing a vegan table, and the theme for our table is Pirate Garden Party. Of course, I wanted to do something crafty for the decor, and these mini pirate ships fit the bill perfectly!

Not only were these simple and fun to make, they put a nice dent in my hefty stash of wine corks. All you need to make your own pirate ships are:

  • Wine corks
  • Security envelope (the sort that comes with your bills and has printing on the inside)
  • Straight pins
  • Paper scissors
  • Glue stick
  • Ruler
  • Serrated knife

To start, decide how many ships you want to make. Since our table seats eight, I decided to create one ship to go at each place setting. You might need more or less, depending on how you’re planning to display these little guys. This tutorial will show you how to make one miniature ship, and you can repeat the process as many times as you need to make your fleet!
