How-to: Create an Inspirational Bunting with Stencils and Stash Fabric

Cut the fabric for your buntingFind small scraps of stash fabric for your bunting. Each piece needs to be cut to be about 4 x 5 inches. If you’d like to alter these dimensions, that’s fine, but remember that each piece will need to be an inch longer than it is wide. You’ll need two pieces of fabric for every letter on your bunting, because we’re going to make it reversible.

The small size of this bunting is nice, because it lets you use up those smaller scraps of fabric leftover from your most meaningful sewing projects. For instance, the flowered blue fabric at the top of my stack is left over from a set of mother-daughter outfits that I sewed for myself and my two daughters from a queen-sized sheet and two matching pillowcases. The red fabric in the middle of the stack comes from an I Spy quilt that I sewed for my younger daughter, and the green fabric is a gift from my husband’s grandmother’s fabric stash.
