Spotted: Homemade Antibacterial Hand Soap

Spotted:Homemade Antibacterial Hand Soap

Most antibacterial soap is bad news, but you can whip up homemade antibacterial hand soap that’s safer and gets your hands just as clean.

The problem with many antibacterials soaps is that they use an ingredient called triclosan that’s terrible for you and for the planet. Studies have shown that triclosan may impair muscle function, contaminates our soil, and it’s part of what’s causing the rice of resistant bacteria. The latter is a huge public health problem. That’s why I was excited when Amanda Ritchie over at The Good Human shared her recipe for a foaming homemade antibacterial hand soap that’s triclosan free.

The best part? Amanda’s recipe only uses 3 ingredients:

  1. distilled water
  2. Dr. Bronner’s soap
  3. vegetable glycerine or vitamin E oil

You’ll also need an old foaming soap dispenser to store your soap. That’s it! You can read more about the soap she made and get the recipe at The Good Human! You can also check out this roundup of DIY liquid soaps.

  1. Wow! I am so glad I read this–I had no idea that conventional anti-bacterial soap was so bad for you. Switching over to homemade ASAP.
