Finishing Your Pinwheel
Choose some thread that coordinates with the felt on the back of your pinwheel and use a few hand stitches to sew the folded corners into place at the center of the pinwheel. It took me five or six stitches to get things feeling nice and secure. Just make sure that your thread catches each corner at least twice. You can give it a gentle tug to see where you need to stitch a bit more. When you’re all stitched, tie a knot, trim, and grab your button!
Place the button the way you want it in the center of your pinwheel at the front. The trick here is to sew your pinback or safety pin onto the back of the pinwheel while sewing the button onto the front.
You’ll want to keep stitching until that pin backing feels pretty secure. Trim off your excess thread, and you are officially pinwheeled up!
Have you guys made any fun accessories from recycled felt? I’d love to hear what you’re working on in the comments!
This is so cute – I’m definitely going to give this a go!
