Next, trim the neckline of the t-shirt. Cut the plaid shirt straight across under the arm pit, at the bottom of the shirt and hem the bottom. This is to even out the hem and to make it look ‘less’ like you are wearing a man’s shirt. But if you like that look and the hem is even, you can leave the bottom alone.

Nice post! This is a nice way to save money on clothes. Thank you for the idea. I usually dye my shirts to give it a new look but after reading this, it gave me some idea on how I can recycle other types of clothing to make a new one.

Oh, I’m sure you’ll be fine. The beauty of this upcycling method is that you are using up shirts you loved and wore well. So turning them into something else means you are giving them a second chance at life. I used these shirts to demonstrate the ‘concept’ so I’m sure your dress will turn out pretty because you will be using shirts that you treasure. 🙂

I am always looking for patternless ways to redo clothes. I have a family of men and this is perfect for those lightly spotted shirts in places where they won’t wear them anymore!!!

You are right. Clothes show so much better on a person. I couldn’t take a self portrait of me wearing the dress when I was done so I had to resort to the mannequin. But, also, I’m sure you have better looking shirts to use than these and they would look totally different. I was just showing the concept. 🙂
Hm…that particular dress isn’t my style, but with some non-collared shirts and a belt this could be super cute!!!!
