Laptop Pillow Made from Crafty Material

If you’re like me and work from home, ergonomics are one of the last things on my mind. I often find myself sitting with my feet up and my laptop in my lap, typing away (ahem, like right now.) The down side to this, is of course the laptop heats up and becomes too hot to sit just so.

Not only is this bad for me and my legs, but also for the computer. It can’t cool itself down sitting on my legs. That’s where this pretty nifty laptop pillow from IF comes in.

The Log laptop pillow is a series of log shaped pillows that when placed just so, make a comfortable pillow for your laptop and legs. Held together by snaps, the logs are made with hemp canvas and organic cotton twill or a hemp and lycra twill blend. The insides are stuffed with buckwheat hulls. The hulls provide for padding and insulation. The arrangement of the logs provide cushion for your legs and allows air to flow and cool the laptop.

With a little creativity you could whip up some of these for yourself. Some fabric scraps, snaps and some stuffing and you’d be set to go.

I also love the button version of the laptop pillow. It is also stuffed with buckwheat hulls and have these cute “non-slip” buttons, which look like they are made from bike tires or inner tubes. At least that’s what I’m telling myself.

  1. That’s a really interesting idea. I have the hot-computer-on-the-legs problem all the time when I’m working at home and was never really a fan of those plastic laptop cooling pads. But this is great. Thanks!

A Portuguese new “home-made” brand is producing a lap tray inspired in one of the most traditional Portuguese materials: cork!
It’s a genuinely sustainable choice and not only environmently sustainable but economically too. Many small cork producers live from the success of this material and the “montado” ecossystem (the landscape of oak trees) depends on it.
The lap-tray are very beautiful and they also use 100% cotton Portuguese fabrics.
The filling is very, very original!! It’s a rather new use of a by-product of cork with really “magic” features.
They’ve just opened an “ETSY shop”. They´re name is On Lap – mundaocolo (Portuguese for world on lap)
