Five Small Furniture Makeovers

The cold weather is keeping a lot of us indoors. Cabin fever easily sets in this time of year since we can feel spring is so close yet so far away. One cure for this is to try and make your home as cozy and inviting as possible. Small furniture makeovers are a great way to keep your mind and hands busy while creating a home that you don’t mind being holed up in. Here are five small furniture projects you can do indoors, using some safe and natural materials, while you wait for spring.

1. Dining Room or Office Chair

These chairs are abundant at thrift stores, or maybe you have one laying around your house that you would like to update. Centsational Girl gives us a fantastic and detailed how-to on a complete chair makeover. Having a nice and cheery workspace keeps us motivated.

Sew Many Ways gives us a great tutorial for using old book pages to create a unique coffee table. This would be a great evening project to work on in front of your favorite movies or shows.

3. Side Tables

Lots and lots of buttons are used to makeover a boring side table on Crafty Crafty. If you don’t have enough buttons to fill the entire surface, you can use other flat bits that you have lying around. Pieces of broken china, sequins, and other recycled materials would create a nice collage effect.

4. Lamp

Olive and Joy has a nice and simple diy on transforming a drab lamp. There are so many fabric selections at your thrift store that would be perfect for this project if you don’t have enough large pieces in your stash. A vintage pillowcase would be fantastic!

5. Three Shelf Bookcase

Since three shelf bookcases are smaller than your average bookcase, one can tend to overlook them and just think about their function. Here is a great tutorial, found on Apartment Therapy, that shows you how to update a forgotten bookcase. Using reclaimed map paper or other pieces of ephemera would work just as well.

What are some ways that you like to stay busy during the months you’re stuck inside? Do you like to do some updating and sprucing up around your house? What are some pieces of furniture that you’ve made over? I would love to see some of your projects and ideas. Feel free to leave any comments, links, and suggestions.
