Aromatic sugar scrubs are my favorite remedy for dry skin. You get to exfoliate, moisturize, and treat yourself to a little aromatherapy all at the same time! This Maple Lemongrass Energizing Sugar Scrub is smells amazing and is so revitalizing!

I prefer a sugar scrub to store-bought exfoliating scrubs, because so often, those commercial scrubs contain microbeads. Microbeads are bad news, y’all. They’re basically tiny pieces of plastic, and when they wash down the drain, they pollute our rivers and oceans and harm wildlife. You can read more about microbeads right here.

You only need four ingredients to make this simple scrub, and I bet that you have half of them in your kitchen already. Maybe even three of them! All that you need to make this scrub are: sugar, maple syrup, lemongrass essential oil, and olive oil. See? Easy peasy!

If you haven’t smelled lemongrass essential oil yet, you are in for such a treat! It’s got the bright scent of lemon oil, but with a touch of earthiness and a little bit more sweetness. It pairs beautifully with a hint of maple syrup in this simple scrub recipe.

Energizing Sugar Scrub Recipe

Your Maple Lemongrass Energizing Sugar Scrub will keep for up to a week in its airtight container, which is why the recipe only makes a small amount. You might be able to double it and still use it up in time, if you’re scrubbing daily, but for most people, I think that this amount is just about right.

Materials

+ 1/2 cup sugar

+ 2 tablespoons maple syrup

+ 10 drops of lemongrass essential oil

+ 2 tablespoons olive oil

Directions

1. In a small bowl, combine all of the scrub ingredients. Stir well, then transfer to an airtight jar with a wide lid (like these jelly jars) to store.

2. To use, scoop up a grape-sized amount of scrub, and massage into hands, feet, knees, elbows, or anywhere else your body could use a little exfoliating and moisturizing power. This scrub works best if you use it in the bath or shower, so that you can rinse away any excess sugar once you’re done scrubbing.
