How To: Upcycle an Old Drum into a Side Table
As I mentioned last week, my roommate – Crystal – is a musician. Specifically, though, her main instrument is drums. We decided to showcase our love for music right in our living room by upcycling old drums into side tables!
What You Will Need:
1. Drums. We used a floor tom (the bottom drum in the picture above) and a high tom (the drum on top). The floor tom is actually from a garage sale and the high tom is from Crystal’s old drum set.
2. A round piece of wood or class (optional)
How To Do It:
Option 1: For the arrangement below, we simply stacked a high tom on top of a floor tom.
Option 2: If you find a floor tom with legs (like the one pictured below) you can simply use the floor tom as the side table. I love this look because you can adjust the height according to your chair/couch height.
Right now, the drums are only for show until we can get a round piece of wood or glass to cover the top. I would suggest adding these if you plan to put items on top of your drums. The plastic piece on top (called the “heads” of the drum) are pretty strong, but they seem kind of shaky to me.
Option 3: Make a coffee table out of your drum like Kara Paslay Designs did. She even added a really cool light underneath!
Option 4: Add your own legs to the bottom of a bass drum (the largest drum) to create a cool coffee table or side table like this one from Better Homes and Gardens.
I feel like our drum tables add so much spunk and fun to our living room! Would you use an old drum as a side table or coffee table? What room would you use them in? Share your ideas in the comment section below or on our Facebook page!
