Fab Fabrics: Hand-Printed Textiles from Helen Rawlinson

London-based designer Helen Rawlinson creates her fresh, hand-printed fabric designs in her converted chocolate factory studio. For the past 10 years, she’s worked on designing and hand-printing lampshades, and last year she branched out in to fabrics. She just recently made the switch from conventional to organic cotton, and it’s great to see another designer choosing sustainable textiles!

Rawlinson talked to us a little bit about what inspired her to make the switch to organic fabrics:

I decided to switch over to organic cotton having researched the market a little and I realised that it was worth paying a bit extra for my base cloth in order to contribute to a more sustainable future. The cotton we buy in the UK comes from overseas, so buying organic at least is a step in the right direction for me. The bags I buy are also sourced from ethical manufacturers and all my screen printing inks are water based and solvent free. Since I go to all the effort of hand printing in small quantities, it’s a good feeling to think you are making something really special and with an eco conscious approach, it’s even better!

You can check out Rawlinson’s organic fabrics over in her Etsy shop! If you want to take a peek at her beautiful lampshades, she has a great selection on her website.
