2. Plate Flowers by The Thrifty Rebel

When I go to garage sales or thrift stores, I always find old plates or dishes. Thanks to Tuula at The Thrifty Rebel, I have a reason to buy them! Head over to The Thrifty Rebel to see how Tuula took old plates and other items to create these incredible flowers.

  1. It’s cute, but how is it green? It uses a brand new tank top, fabric glue (read plastic) and fusible webbing (contains plastic, packaged in plastic). To me, green crafts should not be those that contribute to landfills but that keep things like plastic and other waste OUT of them.

    1. Thanks for your comment! I assume you mean the skirt? It doesn’t say in her tutorial that you use a new tank top, and you could certainly use one that’s in your closet or from the thrift store. She also makes the embellishments from scraps. I agree that fabric glue is not the greenest material, but we believe in embracing all types of reuse. If you are upcycling a tank top with fabric scraps, a little glue is a drop in the bucket, isn’t it? If you prefer, you can always sew the appliques on instead of gluing.

I encourage you to enter your own green crafts projects in this month’s showcase. It sounds like you have some waste-free projects you could share!
