Edible Crafts: Chocolate and Peanut Butter Playdough

Peanut Butter

The last day of my crafting class is coming up in a few weeks, and I was talking with a friend about how to make the last class extra special. Since it’s an after school program, the kids are hungry and a little wound up when they get to me, so my pal Shannon suggested edible playdough. What a genius idea!

Store bought playdough is full of artificial coloring, and after a while it starts to get dried out and unusable. Homemade, edible playdough is free from chemicals and creates much less waste, since the kids will eat their creations!

After much searching, I came across two awesome edible playdough recipes, though I think you could change up the second one to create all sorts of other flavors.

Peanut Butter Playdough

This is the classic edible playdough. My mom used to make this for us when we were kids. Since then, peanut allergies have become more and more common. If you’re making this for school or your child has a nut allergy, you can replace the peanut butter with sunflower seed butter to make this a nut free recipe.

In a large bowl, combine:
1 cup creamy peanut or sunflower seed butter
1/2 cup honey or agave nectar
2 cups powdered sugar

Mix well, until you have a doughy consistency. If the dough is a bit crumbly, drizzle a bit more honey or agave nectar. If it’s too sticky, more powdered sugar will do the trick!

Next: Chocolate Playdough and some tasty variations.
