Egg allergies are becoming more and more common. One of my nephews is allergic to eggs, and he has to wear cumbersome gloves if he wants to participate in egg dyeing. It really takes some of the fun out of the whole thing.

Of course, egg allergies are only one reason that you might opt to skip egg crafts this Easter. I’m vegan, and now that my son is old enough to taking part in egg dyeing, I don’t want him to dye living eggs. These egg crafts are great alternatives to traditional, egg-based Easter crafts, but they’re still festive!

1. Papier Mache Eggs – Grab some leftover plastic eggs from last year, and use them as molds to make pretty papier mache eggs. The best part? If you don’t find all of your paper eggs, they won’t turn rancid in the yard.

2. Chalkboard Place Cards – Grab some heavy cardboard from your recycle bin and make these cute little egg-shaped place cards. You could also totally hide these in your yard. When your kids find them, you can give them chalk and let them go to town. Two activities in one!

3. Bunny Candy Holder – Eggs aren’t the only iconic Easter symbols that appeal to kids. Get your bunny crafts on!
