Green Crafter: Twig & Leaf Botanicals

Herbs are essential not only in cooking but in healing and in beauty products. But when they are used in commercially bottled products with synthetic chemicals, it makes you wonder how beneficial can herbs be?

Well, I found a vegan, cruelty-free, organic herbal crafter that sells only sustainably wild-crafted, Non-GMO herbs. I tracked down, Kelly Beth, who has studied clinical herbalism, botany and aromatherapy to ask a few questions about her craft and her shop.

How long have you been green crafting?

Well, I started making my dad healthful mud & salvaged stick pies when I was around five years old, and now my craft has taken on a much more delicious and appetizing approach through clinical herbalism. I have had twig & leaf botanical for almost five years, now.

What are your favorite materials to recycle into functional eco-goodies?

Paper! I don’t offer the plant fiber paper that I make in my shop, because I wrap everything in it. I wanted my business to be as green as possible, so I take every single scrap of paper and recycle it into handmade paper, dye it with plants and add beautiful leaves and flowers. All of our soaps and candles are wrapped in 100% recycled and sustainable paper!

What new crafting methods would you like to learn?

I would love to learn how to use a sewing machine. I now only sew by hand, but it’s time consuming and can be frustrating at times. Don’t get me wrong, I have a sewing machine, a wonderful one, but we don’t see eye-to-eye.

What is your best upcycled crafting project using the most creative and ingenious way?

This is a tough one! There was a chemistry department that was “giving away or throwing away” test tubes. I scooped them up, sanitized them (although they were apparently unused) and offer samples of bath oils, bath salts, and sugar scrubs in them. Of course the amount that I have is limited, but it felt great to give a second life to something so casual.

Do you have a business selling your green crafts and if yes, what is your shop’s name?

Sure do! twig & leaf botanical!

Thank You Kelly Beth. If you ever have any questions about using your sewing machine to green craft when you are not making herbal concoction, you came to the right place.
