Goodbye Thanksgiving. Hello Christmas! Like many of you, I did a little shopping over the weekend and I was blown away by all the holiday-craftiness I saw. One item in particular sparked a little inspiration in me. It was a glass ornament filled with curled strips of decorative paper and music sheets. Simple, yet adorable.

I know that filling clear glass ornaments with recyclables is nothing new to the craft world, but I thought of three things you might not have considered!

Easter Grass
I moan and groan every year to friends and family about how this stuff isn’t recyclable. So what do they do? They give it to me with the intention of it being dreamed into a craft project. Well, this stuff is actually perfect for these glass ornaments because it weighs practically nothing, it has a nice sheen and it’s easily stuffed into small openings. Bonus – it comes in awesome colors!

Nail Polish
If you have a lady or a teen girl in your life, I bet they’ve got an entire drawer full of half-used nail polishes. Just pour a little down the opening, swish it around, and then let it dry upside down so the paint can drip out. Then replace the cap and you have a brand new ornament! You can do multiple colors and crazy patterns or you can do one, solid color. They usually turn out quite beautiful.

Sprinkles
This is my absolute favorite idea right now because I’ve had a gigantic tub of sprinkles and cake decorating balls sitting on my craft table for months. You’re probably wondering why they’re with my craft stuff and not with my baking gear? Well, I’ve been clearing my cupboards of anything with artificial dyes for a while, but I recently tackled my baking decorations. So much stuff – and I just can’t throw it away. But now I have a plan! How cute will a clear glass ornament look filled with sprinkles?!  A funnel will come in handy, for sure. And I’m not worried about them being too heavy because the they’re super light.

Happy Holidays!
