DIY Makeup: Fix that Broken Eye Shadow

Did you try to apply eye shadow before having coffee and drop it on the floor? You don’t have to toss that crumbled color. Try this DIY makeup fix instead!

Liz Thompson over at Feelgood Style is an organic beauty superstar. She is also a budget-savvy mom who is no stranger to DIY makeup. She recently shared a two-in-one tute for how to fix broken eye shadow. You can turn it back into a brick of powder or use her trick to make it into cream shadow. If you’re new to cream shadows, she also shares some simple DIY makeup tips for how to use it.

The tutes below are excerpted from her original piece over at Feelgood Style.

DIY Makeup: Fix that Broken Eye Shadow

Method #1: Fix it Like New

Materials

  • broken eye shadow
  • rubbing alcohol, as needed

Directions

1. Add just enough alcohol to the compact so that makeup is saturated. Go slowly, because you can always add more if you need to.

2. Blend and smooth to combine. Your finger works great or use a wooden waxing stick.

3. Let the mixture dry and, poof, you’ll never even know it was broken.

DIY Makeup: Turn any Eye Shadow into Cream Eye Shadow

Method #2: Make a Cream Eye Shadow

Liz shares this tute as a repair, and you can certainly use it as one. But this is also a DIY makeup trick that you can use to turn any powder shadow into a cream shadow! Just break it up, then follow the steps below.

Materials

  • broken eye shadow
  • coconut oil, as needed

Directions

1. Add just enough coconut oil to the compact so that makeup is saturated. Go slowly, because you can always add more if you need to.

2. Blend and smooth to combine. Your finger works great or use a wooden waxing stick.

3. Apply! For best application, use a small amount of cream shadow on fingertip, and dab and blend onto eyelid.

  1. I have a pot of L’Oreal Infallible hybrid cream/powder that seems to have grown harder, drier, and rather more crumbly than hefore. I find the pigment saturation and color (I’m a natural blonde with bluish tones to complexion, so ideal color is hard to find!), but not sure how to restore it – whether with alcohol, glycerine, vaseline, or multipurpose contact lens solution. The ‘net has become a wasteland of anecdotal, irrelevant, and useless opinion. And L’Oreal won’t help but of course they want to sell me more. LOL
