Craft Shows: Green Crafters at the Indie Craft Experience

The Indie Craft Experience is one of my favorite craft shows in the country.

Their holiday craft market was here in Atlanta over the weekend, and I got a chance to scope out some of the awesome green crafters there!

The Indie Craft Experience (ICE) throws two craft shows a year here in Atlanta: a summer and a holiday market, and they’re by far my favorite craft market in town. Christy Petterson and Shannon Mulkey have worked hard since launching ICE in 2005 to put Atlanta on the crafty map! Crafters from all over the country travel to Atlanta for the ICE craft shows, and there’s always a nice mix of green crafters to check out.

On top of their summer and holiday craft shows, the ICE ladies organize an annual vintage show called Salvage and a holiday pop up shop. Sometimes I wonder when these ladies find time to sleep.

Craft Shows: Indie Craft ExperienceICE always teams up with local food trucks, and this year #weloveatl had a photo booth truck at the event!

This year’s holiday ICE had over 100 vendors, and the day that I went also saw record attendance. There was no way I’d be able to talk to every green crafter, so I chose a handful of my favorite booths to highlight here instead.

Milton Fay

I’m a long-time fan of Meg Morris of Milton Fay’s upcycled necktie accessories. I bought one of her necklaces at one of last year’s ICE craft shows, and it’s one of my favorite statement pieces.

Find her work in the Milton Fay Etsy shop.

So She Sews

My friend Brooke Helfen is kind of a handmade superstar. She’s the manager at The Beehive – a handmade boutique here in Atlanta. She teaches sewing and crafting classes. And she creates a line of reclaimed clothing and accessories. I love Brooke’s work and have lots of So She Sews pieces in my wardrobe!

Keep up with Brooke at the So She Sews website.

Joe Engel

A friend of mine was walking out with one of Engel’s pieces before I even made it upstairs to the show, and I was floored by how beautifully he uses reclaimed wood to create amazing works of art. He salvages his wood from tear-down property around Western North Carolina and Eastern Tennessee.

Find Joe Engel’s work on his website.

Roundabout

Roundabout owner Kacie Rushton makes silhouette art out of vintage wallpaper and beautiful prints on vintage book pages. She also has a blog that is definitely worth checking out where she shares lots of fun tutorials and other crafty goodness.

Find her work in the Roundabout Etsy shop.

All Mapped Out

Candice from all Mapped Out makes coasters and art from upcycled maps! Right now, she uses new coasters that she makes sure are made here in the U.S., and we had a great talk about sourcing options for reclaimed tiles that she could use. She lives in a rural area, so she doesn’t have access to a Habitat Re-Store or anything like this. I mentioned teaming up with a contractor or construction company to reclaim tiles from demo projects. We got so wrapped up talking that I completely forgot to get a photo of her booth, which is why she’s not in the collage above. I’m sorry, Candice!

Do you guys have any ideas for finding reclaimed tile in bulk? One of my favorite things about green crafting is figuring out materials sourcing!

Find Candice’s work in her Etsy shop.
