There are so many fun, creative ways to use wooden letters. Whether you've got lots of tiny letters or one large one, there are project ideas here for you!

I usually focus on crafting with reclaimed materials, but when I do want something specific, I look for a natural alternative to the usual plastic options. Play letters are a great example. My three-year-old is just starting to get interested in how to spell words. We had a reclaimed set of letters, but it was incomplete. After using an upside-down Q as an O for the 1000th time, I broke down and ordered a set of 300 tiny wooden letters on Amazon. That’s way more than my kid needs, so I’ve been looking at crafty ways to use wooden letters, to use up the excess.

10 Awesome Ways to Use Wooden Letters

1. Garden sign – I’ve been kind of obsessed with making garden signs for my friends.

2. Color them! – This is one of my favorite ways to use wooden letters with my kid. I love seeing how creative he gets, and it’s fun to come up with my own patterns, too. We’ve been using fine-tipped markers to color ours, but crayons or colored pencils would work well, too.

3. Washi tape – This tutorial from Polka Dot Chair uses large wooden letters, but you could use skinny washi tape or cut your tape down to make this work with smaller ones, too.

4. Decoupage – I love that JBS Inspiration painted the letters, so they’d match the paper she used to cover them. This is another big letter tute that would translate well to smaller ones.

5. Yarn wrapping – Wrap part of the letter or the whole thing in yarn for a cool, textured effect.

6. Gift toppers – Creme de la Craft uses sponges for this tute, but you could totally use wooden letters as the base instead.

7. Glitter letters – Because what can’t you cover in glitter?

8. Alphabet wall – I love how A Time for Everything used eclectic letters with different decoration styles in this project!

9. Paint- or glitter-dipped – Use these to make a cute sign for your desk, your studio, or anywhere you need a little typographic art!

10. Bunting – Wind and Whistle used wooden letters to make the cutest typographic bunting!
