I bet there are a lot of Mother’s Day bouquets out there that are starting to look a little wilted. From expensive roses to those sweet wildflowers your kids picked – all flowers have a shelf life. But you can actually keep them around longer than you think.
Consider doing something crafty with your flowers! Here are three ways to repurpose your bouquet from Mother’s Day. (Or your anniversary. Or Valentines. Or your birthday. Or any flower-giving occasion.)
DIY Flower Petal Perfume
This is one of the easiest ways to make homemade perfume. Pluck the petals from your flower and stuff as many as you can into a jar. Then cover the petals with vodka. Yes, I said VODKA! Vodka has barely any smell and will take on the scent of your flowers. Let your concoction sit for a few days and then strain off the petals. You can use this as a perfume or a room spray. Make sure you use flowers with scents that you enjoy.

DIY Air Freshener Sachet
Besides your flower petals, you only need two other items for this craft – a coffee filter and some kitchen twine. Simply fill your coffee filter with flower petals, fold up the edges and tie the filter together with kitchen twine – just like a little satchel. I like to keep mine in the car because when it heats up the oils from the flowers really come to life!
Drying Flowers for Future Craft Projects
So you don’t exactly know what to do with those flowers, but you know you want to keep them. Well, dry them. You can dry just the petals or you can dry the entire flower itself. Rose buds look beautiful when they’re dried out and they also keep their shape. You can hang bundles of flowers in a cool, dry location. Or you can toss them into a paper bag for a few weeks. Make sure the bag has ventilation and that you move the flowers around every few days. Once they’re dry, you can use them on wreaths, arrangements and in other creative adventures.
