5 Recycled Felt Projects

We love recycled felt around here! Ecofi felt is made from post-consumer plastic bottles, which means that every time you use it in your crafting, you’re helping to divert plastic waste from the landfills. Not too shabby, right?

If synthetic felt isn’t your thing, you can also make your own reclaimed felt using wool sweaters that you score at the thrift store. Want to try making your own upcycled felt? Check out felting Julie’s tutorial!

Felt is such a versatile craft supply, and it’s a lot simpler to work with than other fabrics in a lot of ways. Because it’s not stretchy, you don’t have to worry about it pulling and puckering when you sew it, and since it’s not woven, unfinished edges won’t fray. Of course, the weight and texture make it more useful in some crafts than others. Felt is great for creating decorations, accessories, and toys, but it’s not so great for clothing, since it’s kind of bulky and doesn’t drape well.
