DIY Cocktail Umbrellas

While this tute calls for fancy cardstock, you could totally make your umbrellas out of junk mail, magazine pages, or other scrap paper around the craft room. Those glossy pages would work just fine in this project, and the photos and graphics on the paper will add a festive dash of color to your umbrellas!

Recycled Paper Banners

Here’s another project that translates well to junk mail or magazine pages. Martha Stewart shows you how to use simple hole punches to create a festive banner for your Cinco de Mayo get together. She calls for tissue paper, but magazine pages would work great. If you want to have some color uniformity, you can paint the pages after you cut them but before stringing them up. Just make sure you let them dry completely before moving on to those last steps.

Make Your Own Pinata

The fine folks at Threadbanger show you how to use old magazines to make a colorful pinata for your Cinco de Mayo celebration. I think this would be a great project to put a dent in your collection of junk mail, too! If you want to green this up even more, try using Eco Glue in place of Elmers.
