A Review of Do It Gorgeously By Sophie Uliano

Sophie Uliano’s third Gorgeously Green book is directed at the DIY (or as she calls it DIG- Do It Gorgeously) crowd.

Do It Gorgeously covers a little bit of everything DIY and crafty that you can make yourself. As a hands on green girl I am loving this book.

I especially found the food canning advice useful because it is something I have been wanting to try but thought it was a daunting experience. I figured I would have to buy a lot of special equipment but she pointed me in the right direction for simplified canning.

Do It Gorgeously: How to Make Less Toxic, Less Expensive, and More Beautiful Products gives easy DIY instructions for making your own facial products (like a great Vitamin C serum), soothing acene gel, sesame sunscreen, and insect repellent spray, along with many other great recipes for your face and body.

Sophie delves into the crafty green mama arena with ideas for creating a fab green nursery which includes directions for making a super easy build it yourself bookcase (being the bookworm that I am, I am going to have to try this one for sure).

Some of my favorite projects in Do It Gorgeously are the pillowcase nightgowns for toddlers (so sweet), the romantic chemise (simple and timeless) and the gorgeously gathered skirt. They are all very feminine sewing projects that have a timeless style. And those are just examples of the vast amount of DIY activities, directions, and complete step by step instructions in this great green book.

If you are a crafty DIY type of greenie and want ideas and simple instructions for making your own green goods then this is a great book to add to your bookshelf.

It’s a keeper for me. I’m just not sure if I should add it to my kitchen bookshelf or my crafty, DIY shelf.

  2. I love the styling of this book! Usually DIY has a very ‘hand-knitted’ look – you have given it a chic polish and this may bring in some new fans to the movement.
