Fab Fabrics: Screen Printed Yardage by Danielle Stewart

Australia-based designer Danielle Stewart hand screen-prints her fresh, modern designs onto linen/cotton or hemp/cotton fabrics using environmentally friendly solvent-free inks.

An independent textile designer based in Fremantle, Western Australia, Stewart discovered a passion for screen-printed textiles while studying fashion and textile design, which led her to start up her own business a couple of years ago. She loves the challenge of creating repeating patterns and the excitement of seeing her designs transformed into gorgeous prints on fabric!

Stewart says that using eco-friendly processes is important to her because:

I definitely try and consider the environment in my day to day living and that of course extends to my work as well. It is very important to me that my products are produced in a responsible manner. All my designs are screen-printed by hand onto natural fabrics (such as linen/cotton and hemp/cotton blends) using environmentally friendly solvent-free inks.

I just love the vibrant colors she chooses, like the Spring Birds design pictured to the right. How cute would that be as a cloth napkin or handkerchief?

She also sells remnants in great-looking scrap packs, like the one pictured at the top there. You can find Danielle Stewart’s goods in her Etsy shop, or catch her on her blog.

  1. As a Fab Fabric finder myself, I stumbled upon hand printed fabric in India made using old wooden handblocks. The fabrics are really dreamy, and are what inspired dainty Provencal patterns. We’ll be getting a lot more in the shop, but I thought you might be interested to see what we have: http://atradeforatrade.com/textiles

    Keep up the good finds!

  3. Great find. We print all of our clothing with eco-friendly inks. Most don’t even realize that it is possible. Others don’t even realize that they own fabric that is!

    Gorgeous designs, as well.
