Fab Fabrics: Organic Cotton Screenprinted by Showpony

I am totally falling in love with these nature-inspired prints from UK fabric designer Showpony!

Showpony proprietress, Emma, launched her company three years ago:

After graduation from Glasgow School of Art I enrolled in a screen printing course and was immedietly hooked. I studied product design so I tend to think in terms of the finished product such as the bag or tea towel and design something appropriate or fun for that product. However I have started to enjoy designing patterns more and more and love the idea of producing fabrics which will inspire others to create something wonderful.

She’s particularly committed to designing sustainable fabrics:

From the very start I wanted to use organic fabrics and although its not always been easy its important to me to do the right thing. It would be much easier for me to print onto non organic but for me its worth the time and effort I spend.

You can find Showpony fabrics in her Etsy shop or at Showpony.co.uk.

  3. Like you I feel sustainable and ethical is the only way forward, we cannot carry on with our carbon dependent, highly polluting lifestyle. We have just introduced a range of cushions in organic hemp which I’ve wanted to do for a long time. The fabric is produced to extremely high standards and has a lovely soft finish, and the colours are very restful and harmonising. Although the prices are high, the fabrics have a very long life so they work out cheaper in the end and do not destroy the planetary eco systems, meaning we (and our children) will still have somewhere to live, too! You can’t put a price on that.
