Fab Fabrics: Jenny Lee-Katz Designs

Jenny Lee-Katz DesignsI fell in love with these eco-friendly fabrics by Jenny Lee-Katz the moment I saw them (thanks Design*Sponge).  With nearly 50 designs to choose from each available on three eco-friendly base cloths, I am sure you can understand my excitement.  The designs feature vibrant colors and a contemporary seaside vibe.

Jenny Lee-Katz was born in Wales, has worked all over the world and now lives in Pennsylvania where she operates her studio called Jenny Lee-Katz Designs.  Many of her designs are inspired by the Welsh coast line.  Her designs were originally screen printed, but Jenny was always concerned by the ink wasted in that process.  The advent of digitally printed fabric gave her peace of mind with no dye wasted during printing and she could continue to print on demand, which also minimizes waste.

Jenny Lee-Katz DesignsMy fascination with textiles, my love for color and cloth and the enjoyment and satisfaction I experience through working with it, has always been a big part of my life.

Jenny Lee Katz eco-friendly fabrics are digitally printed with water-based pigment dyes that contain no VOCs.  Digitally printing fabric on demand minimizes waste.  There are almost 50 designs to choose from, plus 4 new children’s prints.  All designs can be printed on choice of three base cloths, including linen, organic denim, or a 55% Hemp/45% Organic Cotton Blend.  Many of the designs also can be printed in different size pattern repeats.  Fabrics are finished with heat and pressure rather than harsh chemicals.  Printed area of the fabric is 54 inches and costs $90 per yard.

Jenny Lee-Katz fabrics are also available in ready-made pillows, bags, and eco-friendly floor cloths.  I particularly like the floor cloths, which are printed on 100% organic cotton canvas and backed with a plant-based slip resistant rug pad.  The floor cloths are finished with 3 coats of hand-rolled ultra-low VOC, soy-based protective coating.  Prices start at $170 for a 20 x 30 inch floor cloth and they are available in sizes up to 30 x 90 inches.  I would love to have one of the large runners in my entryway.
