Tutorial: How to Sew a Sweet and Simple Pillowcase Skirt

measure your child's waistStep 1. Take your measurements. If the recipient of the pillowcase dress has hips or desires a roomier fit, add 1/2″ to your final waist measurement. If the recipient of the pillowcase dress has no hips (for instance, toddlers tend to be shaped just like straight little noodles) or desires a snugger fit, subtract 1/2″ from your final waist measurement. This number is the length of 3/4″ elastic that you’ll later need for your waistband.

Make the measurement for the skirt’s length from the point on your waist or hips where you’d like the skirt’s waist to sit to the point where you’d like the skirt’s bottom hem to reach. Add 1″ to this measurement.

  1. That’s so sweet! I love the idea of one in my size for the spring. I still have a bunch of vintage cases from my grandmother too! Thanks so much for this, I’ll be linking.

  2. I can totally see this look as one that would look really great on a lot of adults, too–not me, but a lot of other adults. I warn you, though–those vintage linen pillowcases are a little on the thin side, know what I mean? Slips and linings are our friends!
