Yearn Worthy Yarn: Pineapple

We are a bit pineapple obsessed this week here at Crafting a Green World. But when we find out about an interesting plant fiber that can be used as a fabric and a yarn, color us impressed.

I first heard about pineapple yarn via Craftzine, and thanks to their ambitious interns have learned much about this cute little yarn.

Yarns made from the pineapple or plants in the pineapple family are very similar to twine or hemp yarns. They are slightly more utilitarian but are easily workable. The fiber is taken from the leaves of the plant and can be made into 100% pineapple yarn or a blend.

Knit Purl offers a 100% yarn that comes in bright earthy colors. Habu also offers a pineapple yarn that is a blend. It is lightweight and perfect for weavers and knitters who favor lightweight lacy patterns.

What say you? You ready to work with some pineapple yarn?
