Vintage Button Monogram Pillows

Vintage Monogram PillowI found an Etsy seller putting her vintage buttons to good use.  She makes custom monogramed pillows and wall art with vintage buttons.  Peggy of Letter Perfect Designs hand sews each carefully selected button into place.

Button Eat SignIn an interview featured on Hair Bow Diva, Peggy explained what makes her craft unique:

I’m trying to be creative and fun with the most basic and utilitarian of household items — the button. When I sell at craft shows, I hear all the time from women who have jars of buttons that belonged to their grandmothers. Most love how they look but they don’t know what to do with them. I say put them on display! On a pillow for your favorite chair or on the wall of your home office. I especially love the look of old mother of pearl buttons. They put off such a wonderful glow. There’s something to be said, too, for recycling these old beauties. Some buttons are mini works of art. I’m trying to find new uses for them so they don’t end up at the landfill.

Vintage Button BirdThis is such an inspiring use of mismatched, vintage, and collected buttons.  I love how she uses one color, but varies the button size and even overlaps the buttons to create the perfect letter.  Beyond monograms, Peggy also makes various button silhouettes of birds, butterflies, even a Scottie dog.
