Repair a Tear and Leak-Proof a Bean Bag

How to Repair a Busted Bean Bag

So this is my first legit green crafting project. As you can see, this bean bag tore where the dog bit it (i.e., not at the seam). I used a contrasting thread so that you could see the repair, but if you want your fix to be less obvious, choose a thread color that matches your bean bag.

Materials

  • busted bean bag, with as much of the salvaged stuffing as possible
  • reclaimed plastic produce bag
  • twist tie
  • needle and thread

repair a tear in a bean bag

1. This is all the “stuff” that was in the bean bag that we fished out of the sand. First, empty all the contents of the bean bag into a small produce bag after you’re done using it as a produce bag.

2. Insert an empty bag into the bean bag to serve as a liner bag. In this case, we used a bag that had come as part of some packaging from a product we ordered online. A small reused produce bag would work just fine, too.

3. Insert the empty bag into the bean bag.

Pour the contents into the liner bag through the tear in the bean bag.

4. Pour the contents into the liner bag through the tear in the bean bag.

Tie off the liner bag with a twist tie.

5. Tie off the liner bag with a twist tie.

Sew it up, and you're done!

6. Sew it up, and you’re done! A whip stitch works well to repair a tear.

The mended bean bags function just like regular bean bags. In other words, the “beans” inside are relatively fluid, so…let the games continue!
