Fall is officially here, guys– the crafty DIY decor and fall recipes say so! That means it’s time to bust out some fall decor. This easy recycled paper fall garland is a nice, relaxing project for the changing of the seasons.

This past week I’ve been working on my new fall mantle. I created fun recycled fall letters, but I wanted to add another touch of whimsy and color. I created an easy recycled paper fall garland that’s so simple to make, you’ll be gathering your craft supplies before this post is even over!

Easy Recycled Paper Fall Garland

Materials

recycled paper. I used book pages, but you could also use newspaper, magazines, junk mail envelopes, or sheet music.

scissors

twine. If you can, use hemp twine— it’s more eco-friendly!

a pencil

crayons

a hole punch

Directions

1. Draw leaves on your recycled paper. I made them large enough to make an impact on my mantle, but small enough to still look “leafy.” Yes, leafy.

2. Cut them out.

3. Choose which crayons you will use to color the leaves. You can use one color for all of the leaves, or vary the colors and do a pattern. I chose to do a combination of yellow, red, and brown– tying in all of the other colors on my mantle.

4. Color your leaves! This is the fun step where you become a kid again (or, let your kids do the coloring).

5. Use your hole punch to put two holes in each leaf. I used two holes so my leaves would hang horizontally, but you could do one hole at the top, too.

6. Feed your twine through each hole.

Now your recycled paper garland is ready to hang! I hung mine on my mantle, of course, but you could also put it on the edge of a shelf or table. Perhaps you could even place it on top of your table with other decor items (like a bird cage) for an eco-friendly centerpiece. While you’re at it, make an eco-friendly acorn wreath, too!
