Are you tired of looking at that ugly, outdated light fixture in your home? Perhaps you’ve found a cool light fixture at a thrift store that needs some updating. Materials

+ An outdated chandelier or other light fixture. I found mine at a thrift store for $5. Yes, $5! This is what it looked like before:

+ Spray paint. If you can, use a low VOC spray paint— it’s more eco-friendly!

+ Painter’s tape

Directions

1. Clean your light fixture with a damp cloth. Then, let dry.

2. Tape off any areas that you don’t want to paint. I taped off the gold chain and cords that attach to the top of the chandelier. In the future, I hope to make a cute chord cover out of burlap or other eco-friendly fabric.

3. Spray paint it! If you can, hang up your light fixture– it will make it easier for you to paint. Remember that thin, light coats are best when working with spray paint. Heavy coats will give you drips! Also, don’t forget to get underneath the fixture so you don’t miss any spots.

Now I have a chandelier that I would be proud to have in my home. It has such a clean and elegant look!  If you want something a little more bright and edgy, try painting your light fixture a funky color like this bright yellow chandelier from MStetson or this gorgeous purple chandelier from Vintage Revivals! If I was planning on keeping this piece, I would paint it a mustard yellow or an aqua blue! Unfortunately for me, though, this fixture is headed to my craft/furniture booth.
