Handmade Reviews: Rustic Chic Wedding, by Morgann Hill

Rustic Chic Wedding review (1 of 1)

Want an eco-friendly wedding with plenty of handmade components, but you don’t necessarily want it to *look* like it was cobbled together by a gang of amateur crafters?

Rustic chic is the look that you’re looking for. A rustic chic wedding emphasizes vintage and natural materials, and a simplicity of construction that both makes the projects more do-able, and keeps them from looking overdone. With rustic chic’s additional emphasis on salvaged, one-of-a-kind components over mass-produced commodities, it’s also a look that works well with modest budgets.

Rustic Chic Wedding review (1 of 1)-2Rustic Chic Wedding: 55 Projects for Crafting Your Own Wedding Style, by Morgann Hill, contains project tutorials for all aspects of an eco-friendly, handmade wedding. The projects are organized by theme, so that you can easily choose a tutorial that corresponds to the look of your wedding. Will your wedding be Shabby Vintage Couture? You might want to make your flower girl a painted basket with a grapevine handle, or create a photo prop for the reception by upcycling old wooden picture frames.

Perhaps your wedding look will be more Rustic, Recycled and Repurposed. If that’s the case, then your reception should have a kissing bell, made from a Mason jar and a vintage bell, and a seating chart scripted onto vintage plates.

Or is your wedding, rather, a Country Farmhouse Wedding? Then consider a Make Your Own S’mores bar with carved twigs for toasting marshmallows, or farmhouse-style menus printed on fabric, or a guest book with a leather and wood cover.

If your wedding isn’t so explicitly themed, however, Rustic Chic Wedding also includes several classic projects suitable for a wedding of any style, such as firefly lanterns, personalized vow books, and handmade cake toppers. Add to this a chapter on bouquets and bout pins and a chapter on how to create tablescapes, and you have a useful resource for anyone who wants to take planning the perfect wedding into their own hands.

Of course, Rustic Chic Wedding doesn’t *just* inspire future brides and grooms. Last night, in the falling snow and freezing temperatures, my family decided to have a spur-of-the-moment bonfire. We sat outside, very near the fire, roasting hot dogs and just spending time together.

And yep, we had a make your own s’mores bar.

I received a free copy of Rustic Chic Wedding, because I can’t review a book if it hasn’t encouraged me to eat a lot of chocolate!
