The awesome folks at Hemptique sent me some of their sustainable hemp products to craft with, and they’re generously offering up a prize pack to one Crafting a Green World reader!
David from Hemptique and I had a great conversation about sustainable crafting and which products you guys would be most excited about. What we settled on was a rainbow selection of their beautiful cording, including some metallic cording! Who says that eco-crafting is all about earth tones?
We’ve got giveaway deets below along with a review of Hemptique’s sustainable craft supplies.
Hemp Products from Hemptique
David at Hemptique also sent me a box of their goodies to play with. My box had:
- a sample cards of their sustainable cord
- a full spool of their black and silver cord
- 8 feet of their webbing
Everything is just beautiful, and I am in love with this metallic cord! I think that I’m going to use it to wrap my holiday gifts this year. I use the brown paper from Amazon packages as giftwrap, and this cord will really jazz up my holiday gifts!
What I was most excited about, though, was the webbing. I have made a lot of tote bags, you guys, and finding webbing that’s eco-friendly is basically impossible. Sure, you can make your own straps, but sometimes you want the simple, sturdy look of webbing straps.
Most webbing you find at the fabric story is polyester (aka toxic plastic) or made from dirty conventional cotton. When I saw that they offered a more sustainable alternative to conventional webbing, I knew that I wanted some to use in a tutorial. Look out for that coming on Saturday!
The webbing was a joy to work with, and it behaved just like any other webbing but without the green guilt. I love the hemp and bamboo cord options they sent, too! The hemp cord is more rigid, so it would work well for packaging or making jewelry. The bamboo is soft but strong, and I could see their bamboo twine replacing conventional baker’s twine made from dirty cotton.

I would use the hemp cording in the mixed media craft projects I make. I think it would be perfect for keeping the file folder journals I make together as a closure. I could even tie little charms off the end of it.
I would use it for macrame jewelry. A few cool beads would look good with this!
I love hemp! I’d use the cord to package my items in my Etsy shop!
I would use it to make cards this season and some beaded projects.
Hemp lover here <3 I use it with gifts so I don't need tape, and also to braid kids' bracelets!
I use hemp wicks in my soy candles. I’d use the cord for a couching (type of embroidery) project.
I love hemp products, it would be fun to get my hands on some of this to give it a try!
I’d use this for a few holiday banners / buntings, both for myself and gifts.
I’ve been wanting to try to “wrap” parts of a chair. Think this would be perfect!
I would use the hemp cord to string a whole variety of bunting I’m experimenting with from vintage maps to upcycled game pieces.
I think I would use this hemp cord to make jewelry as well as greeting cards – love that it comes in some any different colors! Thanks for the chance to try it out!

I would use them to wrap christmas gifts. I made cute little boxes with old tissue boxes that don’t need any covering, but I don’t know what to use to “close” them.
Sorry for my English.
I would use them for tags for christmas! Thanks for the chance, Susie.
I would share them with my daughter to make friendship bracelets.
I would use the cording for packaging my handmade soaps. I’ve also been dying to try Kumihimo braid-making and I think this would be the perfect material.
I would use them to wrap presents 🙂
I would make some jewelry with it! Cool stuff!
would totally make knotted jewelry with it
I would use it to make bookmarks (as gifts) with my daughter.
Oh! What fun. I’d also use the hemp cord to package holiday gifts, and I’d use it to make some garland along with old Christmas cards.
I like the idea of using the cord for hanging ornaments. We also have a ribbon around our living room to hang kids’ art projects from. It’s old and not very pretty. I’d love to replace it with this!
Wrap gifts. Use as thick thread for my kids “sewing.” Hanging ornaments. Popcorn string for tree. Necklaces with my kids. I’m sure my kids could come up with a few more ideas. They look lovely.
I use it for lots of things, but right now I want to use it for tying the corners of little twig Christmas stars.
Ok, I confess: I’m not sure what I’d make. I believe I need to hold in my hands to get inspired. 😉
Wrap gifts and try something new to use it for.
To make christmas crafts! 😀
I would use the cording for putting the finishing touches on wrapped gifts since Christmas is right around the corner. I’m sure I would be inspired to use it many other ways as well once I get a hold of it.
I would definitely use this hemp cord & webbing to make some craftivism holiday gifts!
I want to try crocheting with it and decorating gifts in jars.
Making bracelets with my son
I love Hemp!!!! I would use mine for gift wrapping, making n hanging ornaments!
This cord will be perfect for some projects I am working on using vintage costume jewelry. I love the colors, too!
I would use it to make “parachute cord” bracelets for the kids.
I recently became completely disabled and now have time for crafts and I’m enjoying it and kind of takes me away from the pain.
