How-to: Reverse-Stencil Neon Hair Clip from Fabric Scraps

Neon is super hot right now, but if you’re working with reclaimed fabrics it can be hard to track down that vibrant goodness. Fabric paint to the rescue! When you’re choosing fabric paint for your neon hair clip, look for something that’s water-based and non-toxic.

My friend Rachel Faucett sent me a pack of her new Handmade Charlotte stencils to try out, and I’ve been stenciling up a storm ever since! Mostly, I’ve been keeping things pretty straightforward, like these stenciled onesies that I made for our son, but this week I wanted to mix things up a bit. I’d seen lots of cool reverse applique projects, and I thought it would be fun to try that sort of method with stencils instead!

This hair clip was a birthday gift for a friend, and my 8-week-old son, Darrol Henry, was kind enough to model it for me:
