Participate in TerraCycle’s Nationwide Creative Recycling Programs

speakers made from skittles wrappersTo help celebrate Earth Month, Earth Day, Easter and Cinco de Mayo, TerraCycle is launching several campaigns that put a new spin on recycling, making it more creative then ever and easy for everyone to get involved. On April 11, TerraCycle will join with the Garnier Brand to provides the first comprehensive solution for all cosmetic packaging waste.

Billions of pieces of waste are expected to be collected by Garnier which will dramatically reduce the amount of waste sent to landfills.  Through the sponsorship of worldwide Cosmetics Brigade, cosmetic packaging will be collected and shipped to a TerraCycle facility. All kinds of cosmetic waste that would otherwise end up in our trash can now be recycled or reused. This is huge. Not too long ago I was discussing reusing and recycling cosmetic waste. Now Garnier and TerraCycle offer a fabulous solution.

Then on April 14, TerraCycle’s Pick Up Those Plastic Cups campaign launches. After a birthday party or summer pool party, you don’t have to throw away those plastic cups any more.  Solo Cup Company and TerraCycle are launching the Solo Cup Brigade, which will allow consumers to send in all polystyrene cups, regardless of brand. So, whether the cup is foam or clear or red plastic, keep it out of the landfill by sending it to TerraCycle and earning two cents for each cup, to be paid to the charity of your choice. The cups will be recycled into new plastic.

What a great summer activity to get your family or group involved in- collecting cups for charity.

April 17 to 23, TerraCycle is sponsoring Earth Month Nationwide Collection Programs with Office Depot. During Earth Week, Sanford Brands, Office Depot and TerraCycle are offering customers a unique recycling opportunity. Customers can bring used writing instruments, regardless of brand, to any Office Depot store nationwide. In exchange for ten pens, pencils or markers, customers will receive a coupon toward a new Sanford product. The collected instruments will be sent to TerraCycle to be turned into new office supply products ranging from trashcans to desk organizers.

April 22-May 21 TerraCycle and Old Navy will partner in the Flip Flop Replay. The month-long drive to collect used flip flops and recycle them into four public playgrounds will be held around the country. The public can stop in any Old Navy store in the U.S. between April 22-May 21 to deposit used flip flops in designated collection bins.

This Easter TerraCycle is also collecting candy wrappers so save all your Cadbury, Sour Patch Kids, Trident, Mars, M&M’s, Snickers, Milky Way, Starburst and Skittles packages because these companies have partnered with TerraCycle to collect these difficult to recycle packages and ‘upcycle’ them into fun, innovative products. When you sign up for this program you can receive two cents for each wrapper you send in. The money goes to a charity of the collector’s choice while keeping millions of used candy wrappers out of landfills every year.

TerraCycle is also sponsoring a Cinco de Mayo Green Tortillas recycling program. Once you’re done making the tasty Chicken Fajitas or Fiesta Chicken and Black Bean Enchiladas you can send the Mission Foods bags to TerraCycle to keep them out of the landfill. Mission Foods has partnered with  TerraCycle to recover and reuse its plastic food bags. The Tortilla and Tostada Bag Brigade pays two cents per unit of packaging to either Mission Foods’ charity partner Share Our Strength, the leading national nonprofit striving to end childhood hunger in America or brigade participants can select their own charity of choice.

These are all super fabulous ways to recycle, contribute to upcycling and donate to charity all at the same time. TerraCycle will upcycle and recycle all the products collected and transform them into usable and ultra awesome green products including notebooks, bags and backpacks, to speakers for iPods and mp3 players. Go to TerraCycle to see all the fun and functional products they turn used packaging and other discarded materials into and sign up for any of these programs
