Fab Fabrics: Vintage Finds from Paula’s Patchwork

Paula's Patchwork Paula is a fabric-industry veteran who has a love for all things vintage. She’s also very environmentally conscious in her crafting. You can really see that love come through in her carefully-chosen vintage fabric bundles.

It sounds like craftiness runs in her family! Paula says:

I was blessed to have two grandmothers who practiced different needle arts. My paternal grandmother made some wonderful quilts, dating back to the 1920’s when she married. My maternal grandmother who raised a family in rural Newfoundland, hooked rugs, spun her own yarn, knitted and crocheted, and quilted. Both of these women knew how to make do with what they had. Raising families during the depression taught them to use up every scrap and I would be negligent if I didn’t mention how much of an influence they have had on me.

Paula worked for almost a decade at some large, chain fabric stores:

Over time I began to be more concerned about the environment and what the fabric industry was doing to it, as well as being concerned that it was impossible to find anything in the store that was made here in the USA. I eventually quit working at the store as part of my commitment to the environment and to the principal of creating good paying jobs right here. I decided that I would use fabrics that I already have or fabrics that I had thrifted as much as possible. I also save buttons/zippers and other notions from garments that I buy to repurpose so that I rarely have to go to the fabric store. As my fabric stash continued to grow I began offering leftover pieces from fabrics and linens that I had bought at local thrift stores and garage sales.
