Father’s Day Crafts that Dads Can Do with Their Kids

Father’s Day doesn’t have to be a day that leaves dads out of the crafty loop. You already know that the dads of the world aren’t going to be fixing the toilet and cleaning out the gutters on their special Sunday, so instead of leaving them to watch TV all on their lonesome all day, consider Father’s Day a chance for dads to spend some good time bonding with their kiddos.

And what activity makes for good bonding?

That’s right–crafting! Gather the craft supplies and get ready, because the following five easy and eco-friendly craft projects are going to keep dad so busy that he won’t even miss getting a store-bought necktie, or soap on a rope, or whatever random nonsense that he got last year. This is gonna be better:

  1. Cool dads like vinyl, and everybody likes to read. Whether it’s made from MoTown or Sesame Street, there’s a record album cover bookmark for everyone.
  2. The Crafty Chica had an idea a little while ago for children’s recycling containers. Make them small and easy for kids to use, make them match the kids’ bedroom/playroom decor, and make them organized in such a way that the kids are clear on how they work. With containers in each room that kids use regularly, there’s a lot for kids and dads to collaborate on!
  3. Freezer paper stenciling is also easier than you’d think, but provides a lot of bang for the buck since what you make inevitably looks awesome. Have a few stencils and the fabric paint ready to go, and kids and dads can jump right into transforming a boring old piece of clothing into something way better.
  4. Want a magnetic wall or a chalkboard wall or an on-the-wall growth chart? Try the Lil Blue Boo tutorial for a magnetic chalkboard wall growth chart. Go ahead and tape off well and lay down tons of newspaper and let the kiddos pitch in. Magnetic paint requires tons of coats, so you’re going to need their enthusiasm.
  5. Have an old shoebox and some tiny little toys lying around? Make a diorama! It’s the perfect kind of old-school craft that all the dads did back in vacation bible school, but that the kiddos might not have gotten around to yet. HINT: Cotton balls make terrific sheep.

What do the dads and kids that you know like to do together?
